Grants made from the Foundation’s general and endowed funds will, in most cases, be targeted toward projects that help the district provide students with the skills, knowledge and expertise they need to succeed in work and life in the 21st century. This includes mastery of core subjects such as science, reading, history, language arts and math, as well as an understanding of interdisciplinary themes such as global awareness, business, civic and health literacy. In addition, projects should:
- Implement creative and imaginative teaching approaches or techniques
- Have the ability to impact a large number of students, schools or subject areas
- Encourage creative or critical thinking among students, promote teamwork, or support higher levels of understanding and/or achievement
- Address underserved or emerging educational areas
The criteria for corporate and designated fund grants will be based at least in part on donor and benefactor priorities.
Proposed projects may be submitted by individuals or groups of Linn-Mar administrators, teachers or non-teaching educational specialists, counselors, library or media personnel.
Grants will typically range from $250 to $1,500 for individual applicants and up to $3,000 for teams of applicants. While there is no limit on the number of applications that may be submitted from any one school, the Foundation will not typically award more than one grant to an individual school within the same grant cycle.
The Linn-Mar School Foundation has a standing Fund Distribution committee. This group sets policy for funding requests, reviews special project requests throughout the year and participates on the Fund Request Review Committee. The Fund Request Review Committee evaluates spring grant requests. It is comprised of members of the Foundation Board, Staff Liaisons, and other school representatives. An email acknowledgement will be sent to applicants upon receipt of the grant application. Notification will be sent to all applicants following award decisions.
