The Linn-Mar School Foundation's totally awesome Mane Event celebration of the 1980's was held April 10th with over 315 guests in attendance. It was, like, way cool as we traveled "BACK TO THE FUTURE." It's the Foundation's 25th anniversary (1985-2010) and the event was totally rad thanks to the support of a dedicated group of volunteers, sponsors, businesses and individuals.
Everything old became new again! Attendees were dressed in honor of the '80s with "big puffy" hair, pastel or neon shirts and tunics, slouch socks, leggings and more. Everyone enjoyed a scrumptious buffet of hors d'oeuvres and desserts, provided by Hy-Vee Catering. Several guests participated in numerous games for various prizes: the Paw Print Charm Game (sponsored by Philip's Diamond Shop), the Wheel of Fortune (sponsored by Deb Callahan, Skogman Realtor), the Trivia Game (sponsored by Carpet King Carpet One), and the Heads or Tails Game (sponsored by Fosters Heating & Air Conditioning). Guests also purchased raffle tickets and bid on colorful auction items.
Attendees were kept busy throughout the night, thanks to the fun banter of emcees Scott Saville and Beth Malicki of KCRG TV 9.
The interior of the former TCR building at Lindale Mall was decorated with neon streamers, tiny white lights, 1980's memorabilia and more. The evening's entertainment featured '80s music and dancing thanks to DJ Tony Rosenberg of Vibrations, and a musical performance by LM alum and 2010 American Idol contestant Kelsey Madsen.
This year's event raised over $50,000 in all. Mane Event proceeds benefit the Linn-Mar School Foundation, enabling us to fund innovative classroom projects and fundamental educational programs that help our students succeed in school and life.
